iExec and Intel showcased their collaborative work on 5G services at Mobile World Congress 2019. The use case demonstrates how in a future with 5G connectivity, iExec’s blockchain technology and Intel® SGX trusted execution can provide fully decentralized and autonomous solutions for smart cities.
The collaborative work from iExec and Intel was showcased at Mobile World Congress 2019. Intel presented its latest technologies and partnerships in 5G and networking at their booth from 25–28th February. The iExec and Intel collaboration uses interconnected mobile robots to demonstrate a first use case for smart city services. The demo uses 5G technology for a ‘rescue robot’ service, realized in the labs at ShanghaiTech University.
In the demo, the decentralized service uses the blockchain to facilitate a match between two lost robots and a fleet of rescue robots. The rescue robots depart using AI to find a valid path to the lost robots before leading the stranded robots to safety.
iExec provides a blockchain-based marketplace where cloud resources can be exchanged. Decentralized services, such as the rescue robots, can be listed, monetized and managed through the iExec decentralized marketplace.
Blockchain-level authentication between connected devices is facilitated by iExec and a decentralized consensus is carried out over the result of transactions. This allows devices to function without dependence on centralized service providers.
iExec’s End-to-end Trusted Execution solution guarantees security as all data is securely encrypted within an Intel® SGX hardware enclave. This protects and maintains ownership of all data used between connected devices, which is essential for the deployment of large scale 5G smart city services.
The collaboration showcased at Mobile World Congress by iExec and Intel demonstrates that the infrastructure for future smart city services can be secure and private by design.
